refrigerated milk – a poem

refrigerated milk

I poured you a bowl

of cereal this morning

frosted flakes

there was an empty milk jug in the fridge

who puts an empty milk jug back into the fridge?

as I searched for an alternative

I found

half and half

butter milk

and finally a bottle of 1% milk

all the way in the back

I suddenly remembered

pouring cereal for kids in Italy

and how they used milk that

didn’t need to be refrigerated.

What kind of milk doesn’t need to be refrigerated?

I have so many questions about that

and I haven’t really thought about it

until now

when I found that bottle of 1% hiding

all the way in the back.
