happiness – a poem

I am happiest when embraced by feeling.

A soul gasp at the end of a song

Drinking cheap red wine and blowing smoke out of dorm windows

Climbing lifeguard chairs long after the sun has set because the view up here is closer to the stars

Staying up past our self-imposed bedtime

to read or giggle and hold each other because

we are two adults, still learning and we are best friends.

I feel life’s greatness

tugging at my heart

The presence of the moment

The realization of

“this what I’ve been dreaming and working for”

My little daydreams and longings

were found in my present all along.
